“Publisher’s Vantage-Point” (#482)
Main REPORT:
Coming on the back of the popularity of the new e-Newsletter service - recent claims have come to our attention that TSR’s reporting is “too long on speculation and too short on fact.” Well, the proof is in the pudding! Our track record speaks for itself. You haven’t seen many retractions in TSR over these past ten-odd years. You haven’t seen them for the simple reason that VERY few retractions or corrections have been required!
We note that claims of rumor-mongering are usually hurled by manufacturing executives. We further note that such charges are usually hurled about three weeks before these very same executives either retract their claims and admit our stories were right…or else, about three months before these same people disappear from their jobs in a mumbled chorus of “no comments.”
We’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: TSR’s coverage is impeccably sourced. Often, our information comes from well-placed “sources” involved with the very companies that we report on. Often, more than one “mole” per company provides inside information to The Stinger. These sources have access to the real facts, as opposed to the “happy-talk” press releases and PR spin that, all too often, passes for “news” in this industry.
TSR is a friend, colleague, and sometime partner of the amusement industry’s traditional trade press. Yet with all due respect to those outlets, manufacturers in this business have been spoiled for decades. They have come to believe they can, should, and do have a Divine Right to control their image in the media.
Sorry, Mr. Manufacturer. Real life does not work that way.
